Pedasi’s ‘Panga’ Restaurant Earns Nomination in ‘The World Restaurant Awards’

Panga, a distinguished restaurant nestled in Playa Venao, within the Pedasí district of Los Santos province, is proudly featured among the 300 nominees across 18 categories at The World Restaurant Awards, a prestigious event in the gastronomic realm.

Andres Morataya, the talented chef and owner of Panga, expressed his excitement about being considered one of the 29 nominees in the Off-Map Destinations category earlier this year. “It’s gratifying to elevate Panama’s name on the international stage. I feel a sense of joy,” shared Morataya, a Guatemalan residing in Panama. The distinguished panel of judges comprises 100 esteemed professionals from the industry.

The World Restaurant Awards encompass 18 categories divided into 12 “Big Plates” and 6 “Small Plates.” The grand winners will be celebrated in a glamorous ceremony scheduled to take place in Paris, France, on February 18.

Having graced the culinary scene for three years, Panga restaurant has built a reputation under Chef Morataya’s guidance, with a commitment to utilizing local products. “We source from local farmers and artisanal fishermen in the area, ensuring diners savor simple yet delectable cuisine,” Morataya emphasized.

Reflecting on the positive start to the year, Morataya highlighted the restaurant’s nomination for the awards and an invitation to showcase their culinary skills at the Festival de La Luz in Montreal, Canada. “Chasing a dream is challenging; perseverance is key. The whole snapper roasted in nance wood fire, prawns with a porcine twist, snapper wings, and a tiradito of fish in cashew fruit tiger milk are some of the signature dishes that define our Pedasian restaurant,” he added. Panga’s culinary journey continues to captivate both local and international audiences with its innovative approach to showcasing the rich flavors of the region.
